Even though its purpose was to replicate the sail of a dhow, a traditional fishing boat that can seen in the city port, some commentators have compared its peculiar form to female genitalia.

Khalifa International Stadium

There is just one extant facility that will repurposed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup: the Qatar National Stadium, located 10 kilometers outside of Doha’s central business district.

The original architect of Khalifa International Stadium, Dar Al-Handasah, recently completed an update to bring the stadium up to the standards set by FIFA, which expanded the capacity to 40,000 seats.

The stadium’s retractable roof, which is built of a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) woven fiberglass membrane, helps the stadium’s cooling systems and gives it its distinctive peak shape.

After the conclusion of the World Cup, the top decks of the stadium will disassembled and sent to other countries to used in the development of sporting facilities in those countries. A hotel with five stars will built where they formerly stood.
