How Mike McDaniel mixes Miami style with the 49ers’ offense
How Mike McDaniel mixes Miami style with the 49ers' offense

Mike McDaniel’s first game as head coach in South Beach, the Miami Dolphins beat the New England Patriots 20-7. All eyes would be on the offense, where new receiver Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa would work together to make an offense that the Dolphins could hopefully use to get to the playoffs.

On the first return, I would say the offense looked smooth in the right places. In Week 1, they had the 13th best EPA per play in the NFL and a 48.3% success rate overall. But I think there was some meat left on the bone, so to speak, when it talks to the offense on Sunday, but that’s what the film room is for. So let’s see what went well and what went wrong with the Dolphins’ offense on Sunday.

Creative uses of movement and people to gain an advantage

Since he came from San Francisco, we know that McDaniel would bring some of Shanahan’s style to the Dolphins’ offense. But, like most things that go to South Beach, McDaniel has given the Shanahan offense more energy and flavor, adding flavors that fit the players he has in Miami.

For example, Jimmy Garoppolo spent most of his time under center in San Francisco. Last year, 380 of his dropbacks were from the gun, the 22nd most in the NFL. As a QB, it was where he felt most at home. Tua will spend a lot of time as quarterback for the Dolphins from the shotgun because that’s where he’s most comfortable. When the Dolphins were on scoring drives, they used Tua’s quick release. The point guard style to bring the ball to their playmakers, like Tyreek Hill, who was targeted 12 times on Sunday.

Hill’s use was also interesting because they moved him around to improve the passing game. Hill is the quickest player in the NFL, so McDaniel throws the ball to him out of jet motions and into stacks, like this early chunk completion:

Check out what the motion does to the Patriots’ second line of defense. It pushes them back, making it easier for the linemen to get to them. Also, giving Chase Edmonds a way to cut back. McDaniel’s offense in Miami is supercharged. And his use of motion is helping the Dolphin’s offense create good chances for their speedy skill players.

Offensive line play and offensive predictability

Tyreek and Jaylen Waddle are stacked when the ball has snapped because the Dolphins moved Tyreek. Hill sees that the DB has to run across the formation and over another DB to get to him. Because of this, Hill breaks off the route. Easy chunk play. If McDaniel can keep using personnel and motion to make the game easy for Hill and Waddle, Miami will have a lot of big plays in the passing game.

Later in the game, Miami would leave their backs and tight ends in the protection or add chip help. Which is something you can do, but you don’t want to keep living in that world. Getting all your guys into the passing idea is key to an explosive offense, and if the offensive line can’t keep up on the interior, the Dolphins won’t be as fierce.

The Miami offense would benefit significantly from running the ball out of the shotgun formation. Because Tagovailoa is a better passer out of the shotgun. The Dolphin’s offense needs to be able to see different looks and keep the defense guessing. The Dolphins pull their left guard for this run play, and Durham Smythe goes to block the LB. But there is a big problem: nobody stops Deatrich Wise Jr., so the play is over. Keep updated here at OKBet blogs for more information and best odds.

UFC Veteran and Medical Cannabis Advocate Elias Theodorou Dies at 34

Elias Theodorou, a friendly and exciting man who made it to the UFC, died of Stage 4 liver cancer. He was 34 years old. Aaron Bronsteter, a reporter for Canada’s TSN, wrote on social media that Theodorou had only told a few close friends about his diagnosis.

Theodorou got into the UFC on April 16, 2014, when he stopped Sheldon Westcott with strikes in “The Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale.” He keeps a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Theodorou started his MMA career with 11 wins in a row. December 10, 2015, in Las Vegas, he lost a decision to Thiago Santos. He reached 8-3 in the UFC and was let go after Derek Brunson, a middleweight contender, won a decision over him.

On the regional circuit, he fought three more times and won all of them, including two by TKO. In his last fight, he beat Bryan Baker on December 18, 2021, in Greeley, Colorado. It brought his record to 19-3. Sad to say, he died less than ten months after that.

People remembered Theodorou for his long hair and rugged good looks. Also, he never took himself too seriously and worked as a “ring boy” for the all-female Invicta Fighting Championship.

UFC Welterweight Fighter

Theodorou was a friend of UFC welterweight fighter and TV analyst Michael Chiesa. In a video he posted on Twitter, Chiesa said that Theodorou “was the kind of guy who’d offer you the shirt off his back.” At that point in his video, Chiesa held up what he said was his own gray sports jacket.

Chiesa said he was asked to go to a news conference on short notice but didn’t have a collar.

Chiesa said, “I was telling him this while he was wearing this sports jacket and a T-shirt.” He took off his coat and passed it to me. I didn’t get a chance to return it to him. He was that kind of guy. Even though I’m sad, like a lomanyple. Also, I have to remember that he changed a lomanyple’s life and that I’m fortunate to have been his friend.

Theodorou was born in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, on May 31, 1988. He was a man with many different interests. He and Max Altamuro, his girlfriend at the time, were on the third season of “The Amazing Race Canada.”

The Amazing Race Wiki says that Theodorou’s motto on the show was “Don’t die and don’t look stupid on TV.”

Therefore, he had a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Advertising from Humber College in Toronto. He was an outspoken supporter of medical cannabis use. On Feb. 19, 2020, the British Columbia Athletic Commission gave him the first therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for it delivered to a professional athlete. His website says he also got a TUE for the same reason in May 2021. He also did stunts, was an actor, and made movies. Keep updated here at OKBet sports blog for more information and best odds.

Montrezl Harrell's Official Signing With The Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers have made it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in the last five seasons. They are on the verge of being a genuine title contender in the Eastern Conference.

Over the last few years, their lack of secondary talent has hurt their chances of doing well in the playoffs. Because of this, 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey and general manager Elton Brand signed some essential players this offseason.

Philadelphia has signed P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr., two players that Morey knows well from his time running the front office. For the Houston Rockets and is close with All-Star guard James Harden. The 76ers recently added another essential player to their team when they signed Montrezl Harrell, the 2019-20 NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

The 76ers will need Harrell if they want to do well in the playoffs. The team made it official that Montrezl Harrell had signed his new contract.

Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets last season

Harrell, who is 28 years old, played for the Washington Wizards and the Charlotte Hornets last season. In 71 games, he averaged 13.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 23.1 minutes. He also made 64.5% of his shots from the floor out of more than 500 tries.

Based on a press release from the 76ers, Montrezl Harrell is one of only two players in the league. He scored at least 5,000 points off the court over the last five seasons. The other is Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson. Harrell is also the only NBA player to have scored at least 4,000 points and 1,000 rebounds as a stand-in since the start of the 2018-19 season. He leads the league with 41 double-doubles in that time.

Harrell is the best big man for the 76ers to have next to All-Star center Joel Embiid. He is a true “bruiser” in the paint. Not only is Harrell a great big man who can play both ways, but he will also be able to keep things going as an inside scorer and rebounder. It will give Embiid the rest he needs during the season, which he hasn’t always had in the last few years.

The Philadelphia 76ers have high hopes of winning a championship in 2022–2023 and have made their mark in the OKBet basketball NBA this offseason. Everything about this team’s roster suggests that they will be one of the last teams standing in the playoffs next season, and Montrezl Harrell will be a massive help to them.

2012, 2013 New England Patriots

Dont’a Hightower, Brandon Spikes, and Jerod Mayo

Two things have happened to or could happen to these three that you don’t see very often, if ever. The first is that all three of them played for schools that were rivals with each other at some point.

Brandon Spikes played for the University of Florida, and Jerod Mayo played for the University of Tennessee. Hightower played for the University of Alabama.

The second reason is that even though Hightower played for the Patriots through the 2021 season, he is still on the team with Jerod Mayo, who has been the Patriot’s Linebackers Coach since 2019. He is choosing not to play in 2022, so we don’t know what will happen to him.

Even though the Patriots were usually the best team during this time, they didn’t win a Super Bowl when these three were on the team.

1975 Pittsburgh Steelers

Jack Ham and Andy Russell

This linebacking duo was the first to have linebackers who could also cover receivers. It made them a unique pair of linebackers. As a linebacker, they could also come up and make tackles.

Pittsburgh’s linebackers from that position picked off six passes as a team. JT Thomas had the most tackles by a linebacker, with three. The Steelers also won the Super Bowl in 1975, beating the Dallas Cowboys 21–17.

1985 Chicago Bears

Michael Singletary, Otis Wilson, and Wilbur Marshal

In the regular season and the playoffs, the 1985 Chicago Bears team was one of the teams that came the closest to being perfect. Some people even say they are the best team that has ever played.

The following two closest teams are the 2007 Patriots and the 1972 Miami Dolphins. The difference between them and those two teams is that they won the Super Bowl. In a funny twist, this happened against the Patriots in a 46–10 loss.

During the regular season, the three of them had a total of eight interceptions, with Wilbur Marshall getting four of them.

2000 Baltimore Ravens

Jamie Sharper, Ray Lewis, and Peter Boulware

There is no doubt that these three were very serious, especially Ray Lewis, who liked to make a big splash as soon as he got on the football field.

During home games, there was fire, which was a symbol of how the Ravens played defense. They had three shutouts in their first six games and went 5-1.

Even more impressive about this team is that their defense only gave up 23 points in their four playoff OKBet games, and they never gave up more than one touchdown in any of them.

5 US Cities with the Best Professional Sports
5 US Cities with the Best Professional Sports

There’s no doubt that Americans love their sports, but some cities are bigger about it than others. This article tells you about 5 of the best cities for professional sports in the United States. You might be surprised by one of these! The number of teams, the passion of the fans, and the success of the teams that play in these towns were the most important things that were taken into account.

1. Boston, Massachusetts

To be an athlete in Boston, you must know how to deal with the media professionally. The sports media scene in Boston is extensive and can be rough. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Bostonians had a lot of success in all four major sports. In Boston’s history, the Boston Celtics have won 17 NBA championships. During one stretch, they won 11 titles in 13 years.

Aside from that, the New England Patriots have won six Super Bowls, the Boston Bruins have won six Stanley Cups, and the Boston Red Sox have won nine World Series. In terms of rivalries, each of the four major sports teams above has at least one rival in New York. There’s the Red Sox vs. Yankees, the Bruins vs. Rangers, the Celtics vs. Knicks, and the Patriots vs. Bills.

I would also be wrong to leave out the Celtics-Lakers game. Most people in the NBA say that Larry Bird and Magic Johnson saved basketball during the Celtics-Lakers rivalry in the 1980s. There have also been many historical moments with the Boston teams. It includes the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history: they beat the Atlanta Falcons after being down 28-3 and winning the game 34-28.

2. New York

Like Boston, New York has a tough sports media market with many high-profile newspapers, websites, and talk radio shows that are not for the weak of heart. There are also many sports rivalries between Boston and New York in almost every major sports league.

The rivalry between Red Sox and the Yankees in Major League Baseball is one of the biggest in all sports. Also, like people in Boston, people in New York know a lot about sports and have had their fair share of success.

New York is home to the Yankees, who have won 27 World Series titles, the Mets, who have won two, the New York Knicks, who have won two NBA titles (though they have been in the running for many more), and the Rangers, who have won eight Stanley Cups, and the Giants, who have won four and the Jets, who have won one. But it’s not clear if the Jets should even be counted. Even though they say they’re from New York, their stadium is in New Jersey.

3. Detroit, Michigan

Even though OKBet sports in Detroit haven’t been good in the 2000s, they still have a lot of history, especially in the last 60 years. The Lions in the NFL, the Pistons in the NBA, the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL, and the Tigers in Major League Baseball are the best professional Detroit teams. Most sports fans in the US think of the team known as the “bad boys” of the 1980s and early 1990s when they think of Detroit.

This team was known for how good they were at defense and how rough they were, especially between Bill Laimbeer and Dennis Rodman. In terms of championships, the Pistons brought three NBA titles to the city of Detroit in the 1900s and 2000s. The “bad boys” team made two of these in 1989 and 1990. In 2004, they won another. The Tigers have won four World Series titles. They happened in the 1900s, in 1935, 1945, 1968, and 1984.

The Detroit Red Wings have won 11 championships, the most of any team. The most recent one was in 2008. Regarding rivalries, the Pistons and the Bulls, the Red Wings and the Predators, the Tigers and the Cubs, and the Lions and the Bears are the city’s biggest ones. Most of the teams mentioned are between Chicago and Detroit, so you could say these are two sports-crazy cities competing with each other, like Boston and New York.

4. Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles is one city that I never see on lists of the best sports cities, even though its teams have some of the most loyal fans and the essential sports markets in the country. For those who don’t know, Los Angeles has the Lakers and the Clippers in the NBA, the Raiders and the Rams in the NFL, the Kings in the NHL, the Dodgers in Major League Baseball, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, even though they don’t play in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is a great city in the U.S., with more than one professional sports team in more than one league. Yes, you could articulate about the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks, as well as the Jets and the Giants, but that doesn’t count because the Jets play in New Jersey, the Brooklyn Nets play in Brooklyn, and the Knicks play in downtown New York.

The Celtics-Lakers rivalry is one of the great things to come out of L.A. Some people think this rivalry is among the best in all professional sports. The Rams-49ers rivalry and the Chargers-Raiders rivalry are also huge. Also, Boston and, New York, Los Angeles have a challenging media landscape, so there needs to be a particular way of dealing with the media if you expect to compete in this city for a long time.

5. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Even though Pittsburgh isn’t as glamorous as Boston, New York, or Los Angeles, it has seen its fair share of stars. Mario Lemieux and Sid Crosby of the Penguins come to mind as two of the best. Roberto Clemente played for the Pirates, while these two played for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ben Roethlisberger plays quarterback for the Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, known for having a terrible towel, have the most devoted fans in the city. At Steelers games, this is something that fans often wave. As far as rivalries go, the Penguins and Flyers are the biggest ones in Pittsburgh. They have 230 fights between them, which is more than any other team in the league.

The rivalries between the Pirates, the Reds, the Steelers, and the Packers are also essential. These are two of the NFL’s oldest teams. These teams played each other in Super Bowl XLV, and the Packers won 31-25. The Steelers have won six Super Bowls, which is the highest level of the championship. The Pirates have won five World Series titles, and the Penguins have won five Stanley Cups.

The Top 5 Best NBA Defenses of All Time
The Top 5 Best NBA Defenses of All Time

A common saying in basketball is that offense sells tickets and defense wins NBA championships.

But in modern basketball and even as far back as the 1990s, the defensive side of the game can also be fun sometimes.

It usually comes in big blocks and steals, leading to fast break points.

We’ll talk about the ending that wins championships in this OKBet basketball article.

1965-1966 Boston Celtics

This team was in the middle of a 13-year run in which they won 11 NBA championships.

The essential thing to know about any of these teams is that the player who popularized blocking shots played for the Celtics.

It was Bill Russell, and his best piece of advice was not to try to block every shot but to change shots. People who try to block shots should change the shooter’s angle.

Interestingly, changed shots are not included in traditional stat lines at any game level today.

It would be a tough stat to keep track of because you would have to define what a changed shot is and what it is not. However, blocked shots are easy to keep track of.

Shot blocking wasn’t even a stat that could be kept track of until the 1973-1974 season.

We don’t know how many shots Russell blocked that season, but on average, he grabbed 22.8 rebounds per game.

1987-1988 Detroit Pistons

For almost any team, you could pick any Detroit Pistons team from the late 1980s through most of the 1990s. Their defense was their main strength, and it helped them win two NBA titles.

Bill Laimbeer and Dennis Rodman were the most well-known players on the Pistons. Both are known for playing hard and getting inside your head.

The only bad thing about their style of play was that they were often called for fouls. On average, they were called for two fouls per game.

It may not sound like a big deal, but Rick Mahorn (3.9) and John Salley led the way (3.3).

Even though neither of these players did crazy or unique, they still considered the best defenders on the Pistons.

The 1987-1988 Detroit Pistons also the team that came up with the “Jordan rules.” It means that there specific rules they had to follow when they played Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls.

This plan has meant to make Jordan less productive. It worked in the end, which helped the Pistons beat the Bulls and win the NBA title again in 1989 and 1990.

1993-1994 New York Knicks

In this period, the Knicks were like the 76ers were in the 1980s. At the time, the Bulls and Pistons were the best teams in the NBA, while the Knicks could never get over the hump.

Only one thing is different: in 1983, Philadelphia did win a championship.

But during that time, the Knicks never won a championship. The 1993-1994 season the only time they made it to the finals.

In the end, they lost to Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets in seven games.

The strength of this Knicks team was their big men on defense. You had to deal with Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason, and Patrick Ewing, who were big and strong.

Even though Ewing the only player to block more than one shot per game (2.7), all three combined for just a little less than 20 rebounds per game.

Ewing got 8.4 defensive boards, Oakley scored 7.5, and Mason scored 3.7.

1995-1996 Chicago Bulls

Even though the Bulls of this time have been remembered for their great offense, they were strong on defense.

Dennis Rodman used to play for the rival Detroit Pistons and put that team over the top. He led the league in both offensive and defensive rebounds per game.

On defense, the Bulls also won in many other ways.

They were one of the first teams that turned defense into offense. They would often steal the ball and score on a fast break or a pull-up 3.

2000-2001 San Antonio Spurs

Like almost every team on this list, one of the main reasons the Spurs so good that they had two big men who both very good.

Since the early 2000s, this has been happening less and less.

David Robinson and Tim Duncan were two of the best big men. Some people may not know who they are.

It meant that when you were in the paint and could block your shot, you had to worry about not just one but two centers.

In a way, Robinson was lucky for the Spurs. Robinson was in the second half of his NBA career, which is why San Antonio would have needed to get Duncan. Duncan was 35 years old this season, which is also why Robinson was in the second half of his career.

He finally gave up playing at the end of the 2002-2003 season.

During the season of 2000-2001, the two towers worked together to get 15 defensive rebounds and 4.8 blocks.

OKBet Baseball Trending: Steve Carlton Is A Workhorse Of A Pitcher

Steve Carlton, who throws with his left hand, was the last of the workhorses on the mound. During his 24-year career, from 1965 to 1988, he averaged more than 300 IPs per year for four years. He began 41 games in 1972 and finished 30 of them. His career record of 329–244 wins and 3.32 earned run average (ERA) got him into the Hall of Fame in 1994. But not many people knew him well. – Norman L. Macht

Steve Carlton ran into trouble for most of his career. He seems to have focused more on his pitching than his appearance, a massive mistake in the media age.

The names people called him were the best way to see how different his public and private lives were. His teammates called him Lefty, but the press always called him Steve.

People like Grove and Gomez got the name “Lefty” because they were excited and made good copy. Many fanatics were unaware that they even had proper first names.

But Steve Carlton wouldn’t talk to reporters for eight, ten, or thirteen years, depending on who kept track. He was known as the Quiet One, the Monk, and the Hermit. Why? Because he didn’t show any emotion while playing? Because he made no colorful copy? Also, because he did nothing but work hard to become probably the best left-handed player in history? Would it have been distinct if he had let fans know the real Lefty was one of the most innovative, well-read, and interesting people who ever faced hitters?

Carlton’s life was always a mystery. But that same stone wall of focus and self-discipline, along with the deadliest slider any pitcher ever threw, got him into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot.

Keith Moreland was the Phillies’ World Series in 1980.

Keith Moreland, who caught for the Phillies in 1980 when they won the World Series, said, “He was the most attentive athlete I’ve ever worked with.” “He was able to block out everything. I think there were times when he was so into it that he didn’t even know who was hitting.”

Herm Starrette, the pitching coach for Philadelphia when Lefty was at his best, also remembered that Lefty was calm after a game.

Starrette said in awe, “Whether he pitched a no-hitter or something else when the game was over, and you congratulated him, he’d tell you that was in the past.” Already, he was getting ready for the next game.”

Above all, Lefty was the best pitcher who got there on his own. Things didn’t look good when he first joined the Cardinals in 1965. “He was a tall (6-4), skinny kid with a good curve but not much of a fastball,” his rookie roommate Nellie Briles said. “In 1966, the Cardinals sent him down. Then he brought up to pitch in the Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown, where he beat the Twins 7-5 and didn’t go back down. He got to more than 200 pounds and made that slider.”

OKBet Football: Southampton Beat Chelsea For Their Second Straight Away Loss

Chelsea lost on the road for the second time in a row in the Premier League. Adam Armstrong’s goal in stoppage time of the first half was the difference in a 2-1 Southampton win at St. Mary’s.

The Blues didn’t look like they were working together, especially in the second half when Thomas Tuchel tried to pull every available string to make a comeback. That didn’t work, so Chelsea has to pick up the pieces again as they return to Stamford Bridge.

Even though Kai Havertz had trouble initially, he has given another chance to start up front, but he didn’t give anyone reason to believe in him. Hakim Ziyech, who might have been on the move before the deadline, was also put up front. His creativity kept the Blues going, but Raheem Sterling couldn’t build on his first-half goal because he didn’t get much help.

Southampton played aggressively together as they pressed Chelsea when they had the ball for 90 minutes. Romeo Lavia’s goal to tie the game was a great strike. It was the Belgian’s first Saints goal on a day when he did a lot more than just score one goal. Armstrong’s winning goal right before halftime was a good match for Chelsea’s sloppy play. He was left alone on the penalty spot and had an easy shot.

With the loss, the Blues drop to eighth in the Premier League table, and Southampton moves up to seventh. The goal by Sterling gives the former Man City forward three goals so far this season. And he’ll have to carry even more weight as those around him struggle.

The Sporting News gave live updates on the score, commentary, and highlights of the Southampton-Chelsea game as they happened.

Chelsea need a midfielder, not another defender

Even though Todd Boehly is trying to get more defenders like Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol, Chelsea’s most significant need is elsewhere.

On the field, it’s clear that Thiago Silva, Kalidou Koulibaly, Trevoh Chalobah, and Cesar Azpilicueta have the central defensive unit covered. Their communication and teamwork are slowly getting better.

Instead, what the Blues need is another central midfielder. Again, Jorginho didn’t look up to speed because he made bad passes and pushed off the ball. After halftime, Mateo Kovacic took over for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who had seen with ice on his knee. Kovacic put in another good shift, but he can’t be the only one to move the team forward against a strong press. Someone named Declan Rice lives across London, but Boehly still seems interested in him.

Blues stuck with a little direction under Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Chelsea, has stayed strong even though the team has been having trouble, both in the preseason and so far this season. He still uses his classic three-at-the-back system. The only reason he changed it today was that Reece James was sick and couldn’t play.

He went back to the formation in the second half when Chelsea was already behind, but it didn’t help them win. Kai Havertz was struggling, but Tuchel kept playing him. He gave his fellow German another chance, but Havertz missed many shots and made terrible tackles. He cut a significant event in the first half when he shot from a tight angle, and the ball went right into the goalkeeper’s chest. In the second half, he blew a wide-open header over the bar.

Talented players like Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja are still waiting for their chance to shine. Both players reached on in the second half, but everyone on the Chelsea team was frustrated by that time. Want-away winger Hakim Ziyech got a chance and played well in the first half, but he couldn’t keep up with the rest of the team in the second half. OKBet News: Jordan Clarkson shines as Gilas Pilipinas beats Saudi Arabia

Gilas Pilipinas beat Saudi Arabia by 38 points in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. Jordan Clarkson put on a show in front of a massive crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Jordan Clarkson could not have stopped in his first home game with Gilas Pilipinas.

Gilas Pilipinas beat Saudi Arabia 84-46 in the OKBet FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers on Monday, August 29. Clarkson put on a show in front of a packed crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena and led Gilas Pilipinas to the win.

The NBA 6th Man of the Year from the Utah Jazz put up 23 points, six assists, and five rebounds as the Philippines overcame a slow start to even its record in the Asian Qualifiers at 3-3.

After the first quarter, the home team was behind 11-14. Clarkson and Dwight Ramos worked together in the second quarter to help Gilas Pilipinas take a double-digit lead. At halftime, Gilas Pilipinas had a 37-28 lead.

Nearly 20,000 people, including President Bongbong Marcos, went to the Arena. and Clarkson made sure they got what they paid for by putting on a show with many highlight reel plays, including a buzzer-beater from near half-court to end the first quarter.

Gilas 24-8 in the third quarter

Gilas Pilipinas beat the visitors 24-8 in the third quarter and never looked back on their way to a 38-point win. Clarkson’s play gave Gilas Pilipinas a big boost.

Kai Sotto led Clarkson with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks, and Ramos added nine scores and six rebounds. As the Philippines made up for their terrible 85-81 loss to Lebanon just three days ago.

Clarkson, who also got his first FIBA win, said, “I think I felt all the energy in the crowd. I think we all did, as a team.”

“Playing at home in front of your people is different, and also this Arena is gorgeous. I can’t remain to come back and play more games here.”

For the Filipinos, Japeth Aguilar and Kiefer Ravena each scored 8 points. Ray Parks and Calvin Oftana each scored 6 points in a lopsided win that gave head coach Chot Reyes some relief.

As much as the fans loved the Filipino players, they made it clear that they didn’t like Reyes by booing them whenever he was on the big screen.

When the Philippines were behind, the boos were louder. But Reyes made the changes needed in the second half when they beat Saudi Arabia 47–18.

“The crowd rather boo me than the players,” Reyes said. “Just cheer for the team.”

Khalid Abdel Gabar led the Saudis, who dropped to 1-5 and stayed in fifth place in Group E. He had 9 points, nine assists, and six boards.

No Saudi Arabia player scored more than 10 points, and the team only shot 23% from the field, even though they took more shots than the Philippines (68 to 66).
